Shreveport frowned faintly. "Oh yeah...?" Who was this guy? No one had payed them any attention since the humans had begun to try to exterminate the mutants. And now here was this guy, showing them food and talking of a group that might take them in. Marcus had finished the bag of beef jerky and trotted over to Shreveport, eyeing him for a moment before jumping up on the counter. He spun around once, twice, and they lay down within arm's reach of his friend, letting his head rest on his front paws, watching Kindle.

Kindle snorted. "Sure, my fuckin' powers are worse'n yours and they deal with my bullshit." He lit up a cigarette, grabbing other packs from behind the counter and filling his pockets. He maybe had a little bit of a nicotine addiction. But it was better than the alternative. "There's a lotta us too, safer to be in a big group."

Shreveport's frown still held as he stroked Marcus's big, soft head, watching Kindle as he moved about. "A big group? How do they hide from the Sentinels?" That had been their biggest issue living here. Even with just the two of them, it was hard to hide from the big metal monsters.

"We have an underground stint. So far we haven't been found out." He didn't seem to much care that neither one trusted him, it wasn't like it was a surprise. No one trusted him. He found it was easier that way, this way he didn't have to keep up a standard. Everyone knew what to expect from him.

"How many mutants?" Shreveport asked, rubbing Marcus's velvety soft ear between his fingers. "And what do you do there? Just hide?" Marcus bit Shreveport's hand gently, but firmly, as he pressed too hard on his delicate ear. His friend was tired of just living, just surviving... he wanted to fight back.

"Hell if I know, I don't fuckin' count them. I don't stick around long, if I hadta guess, 'bout twenty of us total." He sucked in on his cigarette sharply before sitting up again, sticking another handful of cigarettes into the bag. "We do a lotta shit. Don't fuckin' ask me what though."

Shreveport shook his head faintly, looking to the ground, thinking. This guy didn't seem to care much about whatever group had taken him in. And maybe it worked the other way around as well. He sure acted like it. "What's your problem, anyways?" He asked, green eyes back on Kindle. "We haven't done anything to you, or if we have we didn't mean to. And I'm grateful that you've led us here, to this food, and told us about this group that you're in... but you still act sour towards us."

"Kid, I've always been like this. You don't fuckin' like it, find some other asshole to deal with." Kindle slipped down off the counter, pulling his cigarette from his mouth. "'Cause I don't give two flyin' shits about anyone." He tugged the duffle into his hand firmly, heading for the door. "Its a dog eat dog world, and I'll be damned if I'm on the bottom of the pile."

Marcus's head raised at Kindle's last statement, and he whuffed. What a lie... He had never eaten another canine in his life, and wouldn't dream of doing so. "Well, thanks anyways." Shreveport sighed, watching him get ready to leave. Some people were just so hard to deal with... "Oh, wait, before you go... if we wanted to join, how would we find that group you were talking about?" He pushed himself off the counter, followed shortly by the wolf.

"If ya wanna find them you should follow me. There's no other fucking way to do it." He went through the door, eyes looking back at them. A frown on his face, little lines creasing at his forehead. They'd fit right in. But eventually they'd have enough fighters to boot him out. As it was he was certain the more powerful mutants of the group were ready to toss him out. Then where would he be?

Shreveport looked down at Marcus, whose tail was wagging slowly, his yellow eyes on the teenager. "Oh Marcus," Shreveport sighed, sounding defeated, kneeling in front of the wolf and taking his great furry head in his hands. "I hope I know what I'm doing." The wolf gave him a reassuring lick, then nudged him back to his feet. He trotted after Kindle, a big doggy grin on his face.

Giving a small snort the older mutant headed back the way he'd come. This would boost his numbers at least. So far he rescued more lone mutants than anyone else. And perhaps that was the only reason he was still part of the group. That and someone always seemed to vouch for him, though he hadn't yet figured out who it was.

Shreveport heaved another sigh and started off after the two. Marcus was following close behind Kindle, his nose to the ground, sniffing out all the new smells he could. Even in all this destruction, the canine could find something interesting to turn his attention to. Marcus was lucky... even though he was the more cunning of the two, Shreveport was much more booksmart. He had skipped two grades in school, back when there was school. This meant that he was the one opted to turn human when they had to interact with people... he would introduce himself and his friendly, fuzzy little friend and hopefully gain someone's trust. If not, it was Marcus's turn to use his wits to get them out of trouble.
